The Color Matching Scheme

Achromatic Scheme
-similar to the mono-chromatic scheme, as it is
-using blacks, whites and grays colors
-the most play safe scheme among all schemes

Analogic and Complimentary Scheme
-that using 2 adjacent colors + one pair of opposite color (complimentary scheme)
-together have four colors
-very difficult to make use of this scheme, need to take a balance between 4 colors (e.g. some use more while some use less)
-this example using red, blue, yellow and green

Mono-chromatic Scheme
-that is different chroma/intensity(brightness/dullness of a color) or different value(lightness/darkness of a color)
-the highest chroma will produce the primary color (those items will use it if want to be very sharp compared to other items)
-there are no white in intensity/chroma, as the lowest chroma just look dull/grayish
-for value, if lighter of a color, will add white to it, while darker a color, will add black to it
**both of them can make the outfit/product to be so harmony

Complimentary Scheme
-a pair of opposite color on the color wheel
-it has some difficulties to match a harmony outfit by using this scheme
-unless lower the proportion of one of the color, like the following photo, using waist band and headbands

color relationship of Burberry and Scotland skirt

1.Burberry's pattern

Burberry is a very well-known brand that it's pattern of check going deep into people's mind. This pattern using both achromatic scheme (blacks, whites and grays) and two adjacent colors (khaki & red).
It using achromatic scheme (blacks, whites and grays) and also mono-chromatic scheme (red & pink).

Both of these two pattern of BURBERRY using "achromatic scheme" as the base as well, together with others color scheme. For example, 2 adjacent colors (diad) of khaki & red is so impressive that become the classic of BURBERRY, making everyone remember it, and it make people feel harmory at the same time.

Another example is the mono-chromatic scheme of red & pink, which using different tint in one hue, but it still be very soft, feminine together with harmony too.

Therefore, maybe a new pattern of achromatic scheme (blacks, whites and grays) with complimentary color scheme (green & red) will be created in the future.

2. Kilt

There are many patterns of Scotland skirts, as above, e.g.green, red, blue, etc.

This pattern using achromatic scheme (blacks & whites) and 2 adjacent colors/diad (red & blue), that have more portion of blue.
It using achromatic scheme (blacks & whites) and complementary color scheme (red & green), that have more proportion of red.

It uses achromatic scheme (blacks & whites) and analogic and complimentary color scheme (blue, green, yellow with red), that use more portion of blue & green.
In these three patterns, they all use achromatic scheme of blacks & whites as the base and both aggressive and receding colors as well, but different portion are used for different passion shown. For example, the first and third patterns are very cool, calm and relax, while the second pattern making people feel hot and passionate.
For the above analysis, maybe in the future a new Scotland skirt's pattern will be made, like the base of black & white with analogic and complimentary color scheme (green, yellow, orange & violet)/ complimentary color scheme (orange & blue).

Color Matching Scheme

After learning those color matching scheme, actually I feel it them as a mass. I think that I have already forgot them, as I do not have a revision of them.

However, after that lecture, I will think more of the color matching of my set of clothing everyday before I left home. Those theories are really useful, that you don't need to remember them on purpose, but you will make use of them self-consciously.

It was so interesting that one day I and my friends also wearing different hues of blue, so we took a photo to record our tacit understanding =]

Class Exercise no.2 (a) Consumers' lifestyle & mass customerization and (b) Designing a feedback form

We did a class exercise on the previous lecture, the exercise is divided into two parts, which is consumer’s lifestyle & mass consumption and designing a feedback form.

The first part is “Consumer’s lifestyle & mass consumption” that we need to analyze our schoolmates’ lifestyle, mass customerization and identify their color preferences.

-Schoolmate A’s lifestyle is leisure and relax, that she hates to be forced by others. She likes wearing slacks and casual clothing, and she is not an brand conscious actually. Black, brown and white are the colors she likes the most.
-Schoolmate B’s lifestyle is entertainment, that she really like shopping, though she deny it. She likes wearing mini skirt, especially in summer and she likes buying clothing and goods with brand, e.g. Agnes B, Chocolate, but just for sometimes. Actually, she likes grass green the most, however she never wear cyan clothes, since it is so outstanding, she just buys cyan shoes, bags and iPod.
-Schoolmate C’s lifestyle is individual. She likes slacks, slim-cut and casual wear. And she just buys something for brand, such as belt, wallet, shoes, etc.
Actually, she doesn’t has designated favorite color, but she’s clothes are black and white mainly.

The next part is designing a feedback form, in order to collect customer’s opinion on their color preferences.

1. Do you like those colors that we chosen in the collections/outfits of this season? (as we want to know if our selection of color fit their preferences)
2. On the following, which color do you like the most, pastel or dark color? (since we would like to see which type of color they like more)
3. Which one would you prefer on your clothes, single color or multiple color?
(to see which color pattern they are more prefer)
4. Which one do you like the most, cool color or warm color?
5. Is colors the important element for you when buying clothes?
6. Is our color selection in each style enough for you?
